In short, “Tâigí Taiwanese is the language/culture that the most family are still using, Formosa/Taiwan went through the Chinese totalitarian/dictators colonial time so the minority of the ruling group they enforced their Mandarin Chinese upon us, and now with the struggling for democracy/independent, we’re getting better for sure and the language/people are making their way back.”
Despite “Taiwanese Tâigí” being the main mother tongue and family language of the Taiwanese(as Hong Konger speak Cantonese, Europeans speak their mother tongues), however, due to post-war Chinese colonization and the global geopolitics issue, Taiwanese Tâigí as one of the many native “languages” spoken in Taiwan (others are Hakfa, Pangcah, Bunnun, Paiwan…), Taiwanese Tâigí, diminishing and things only got better in the recent 30 years as the Taiwan political environment gradually move away from the corrupted one-party Chinese dictatorship with its police state into the democracy and freedom, or is it? Things haven’t been solved yet.
Here is an interview with A-Hua-Sai (a Taiwanese pop ricer) 足英台三聲道磅米芳 about why he rejects speaking Mandarin and chooses to speak Taiwanese and other Taiwan mother tongues.
“When people think about Taiwan, they often ask what language is spoken there. Those who know little about Taiwan will assume people in Taiwan speak “Taiwanese” (makes sense as people from England speak English and people from Spain speak Spanish.) Those who know more about Taiwan will think people speak Mandarin/Chinese (makes sense as people from America speak English and people from Mexico speak Spanish.)
While people in Taiwan now predominantly speak Mandarin due to government policies and education, there has been an increase in interest to preserve and spread Taiwan’s mother tongues since the 2000s, including Taiwanese Tâigí (Hokkien, Lánlângōe, Bânlâm as its language family, check the research of Meta’s new AI-powered speech translation system for Hokkien pioneers a new approach for an unwritten language which references/materials are mostly based on Taiwanese Tâigí)”
Taigi is often referred to as a dialect because of its lack of a standardized written system. However, it is to be noted that any language that started out spoken can be followed by a written system. Although various writing standards have been offered by local organizations and scholars for more than 150 years, no government authority in Taiwan has accepted these as an educational standard for teaching Taigi. Now, with a resurgence of wanting to preserve Taiwanese, new systems are being set out.
There are dozens of ways to write in Taigi–using one or more of Latin, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean symbols. Each of these scripts come with their respective writing systems. The most common scripts used today are Chinese and Latin characters.”

另外中國做國家名是這百年才發明概念，其中一位發明者梁啟超1911來台和＊林獻堂見面，論以早請解說為何日本今有中國地區有中國電力公司，以早人叫 China（地理）代表大清大明大宋大元，中國是自稱無外交國家概念，有年代是各種中國自稱存在文獻，各族群語言四分五裂才是常態自然，現代無國家會自稱繼承羅馬國滅亡後時代領土所有國家，當然人類攏是非洲來，人類問題咱愛共同面對。
『．．．梁啟超建議效仿愛爾蘭的模式，如何透過日本殖民下作出有效的反抗，尋找日本本地政治人物的支持來爭取自治的權利，也表達了中國無法協助台灣，台灣人只能自立自強。

As a non-native, you may also find this article objectively right, yeh but as someone who studies Taiwanese languages and literature, I would definitely argue the terms and words (on the history part as well), overall it’s an article of the observer and as you can see the Taiwanese are still under constructing, I do agree with the way he described the situation at the ending, here is the quote, “Finally, considering that Taiwanese is a potentially endangered language, I would by no means discourage anyone who is interested from learning it. The more people who speak Taiwanese, the more likely the language is to survive. But ultimately, the fate of the Taiwanese language will lie in the hands of Taiwanese themselves.”
